Our Horses
We currently have three horses on the property. All of them are very unique characters. The following is a short profile on each of them and how we came to aquire them.
Name: Gunner
Breed: Quarter Horse
Age: 15
Height: 15.1 hands
Color: dark bay with white blaze
Loves: to be boss, eating, eating and more eating, playing in the puddle or creek, moonlight bareback rides
Dislikes: not knowing what is going on with "his" herd
Purchased Gunner from a couple that does team penning, said gunner wasn't "coming along" like they wanted. I don't know what they were talking about. He gets all fired up when he sees cows, he's can turn on a dime, and he's got cat-like reflexes - especially when he's crabby! He was my first horse, and he's taught me ALOT!
Name: Dundee
Breed: Quarter Horse/Belgian
Age: 11
Height: 15.3 hands
Color: Chestnut with/ flaxen mane and tail
Loves: being rubbed behind the ears, treats, playing with his grain bowl, alone time away from his brothers so he doesn't get picked on
Dislikes: being rubbed under his belly
Dundee came from a place down the road, as we needed an inexpensive horse for a "buddy" for Gunner when we moved into our new house and brought Gunner with. Dundee had only been ridden a handful of times and needed to learn all over again. They instantly became friends and Dundee picked up riding instantly. He'll canter all day long if you ask him too, and it's really smooth.
Name: Bug
Registered Name: Hold On A Minute
Breed: Thoroughbred/Quarter Horse
Age: 7
Height: 16.3 hands
Color: Dark Bay
Loves: getting primped like an English jumper, being in his stall, jumping over anything
Dislikes: being snuggled (enough with the hugs, mom)
Bug was an "orphan" at a training facility that was run by a very good friend of mine. Basically, he's been waiting his entire life for someone to bond with as he's been bounced around from training, to showing, to jumping, etc, and he was only 4 years old. He was never able to be "just a horse." I worked at the training facility 2-3 times a week, and fell in love with Bug. There was just something about his personality. I knew that I could never afford a cool "show" horse, but I gave him as much attention as I could, because he was basically ownerless. My friend decided to move to Michigan, and was unable to take Bug with her, so she gave me the deal of the century. When Bug came home with us, his feet were in poor condition, so with the help of our fantastic farrier, he is now shoeless, and LOVES being "just a horse."
